Recommended to me by my Australian friend, she was correct that the writing style is superior, bringing the character into an intimate relationship with the reader. The usual Kindle E-errors in translation are just a personal annoyance. But that comes with all Kindle translations I have purchased.

Darcy, A story worth retelling!

I knew nothing of Les or his background. Now that I do, I agree with the author that it is an important page in our history that should be made known. Though as is usual for Mr FitzSimons the hero is viewed through Peter's very strong rose coloured glasses. His research is great and is a credit to him. And I like the positive way he presents his main characters i guess I'm just a tad sceptical of such characters being guided by principle alone. On reflection, perhaps it is just that Mr FitzSimons tells the story as the hero would have presented it themselves. So in fact he does get inside the hed of is main characters. And that's not such a bad thing

Ballad of Les Darcy

The book provides a readable and understandable account of the life and times of Les Darcy, probably Australia's greatest boxer, who,like the good son, brother and Australian that he was, wanted to provide for his family before he went off to a war which he was unlikely to return unscathed. Fitzsimmons describes the national state of mind rather well and questions the 'patriotism' which led so many Australians to travel to the other side of the world in order to demonstrate their loyalty to the Empire and claim the national maturity that they believed that had at last won for themselves.

About the Author
Dr. C. Edward Lan has authored two books on airplane aerodynamics and airplane performance. He is the author of more than 100 papers on these topics and the co-author of Airplane Aerodynamics and Performance. He retired as the Warren S. Bellows Distinguished Professor of Aerospace Engineering at The University of Kansas, where he taught airplane aerodynamics and performance, computational fluid dynamics, helicopter aerodynamics, aero elasticity and advanced aerodynamics courses. Dr. Jan Roskam has authored ten books on airplane flight dynamics and airplane design. He co-authored Airplane Aerodynamics and Performance with Dr. CT. Lan. He has written more than 160 papers on these topics and authored the popular Roskam's War Stories. He has actively participated in more than 36 major airplane programs. He retired as Ackers Distinguished Professor of Aerospace Engineering at The University of Kansas (KU) in 2003, where he taught airplane design, stability and control. Dr. Roskam retired as President of DARcorporation (Design, Analysis and Research Corporation) in 2004. He currently serves as an active consultant for DARcorporation, which develops and markets airplane design and analysis software, and is a successful private and government consulting firm.

A concise and thorough compendium of a lot of aeronautical information that seems to be hard to find in one place. Definitely old school, with formulae type-set on a typewriter and some hand-drawn graphs, but math is math.

Wealth of well presented information

An encyclopedic book on airplane aerodynamics and performance presenting all aspects of this vast field in a good organized and accesible manner. The diagrams and pictures have a more coloquial quality, but they are in general very instructive and at times lively as they present data, aspects or facts about planes that have made aviation history. It is not a book for every one, and specially not for the reader expecting to get in short an overview of airplanes design or analysis. It is excellent for the student that higher values a technical than a scientific approach to aerodynamics. The book presents not only equations, it presents a wealth of data on values, parameters, technical solutions, realized on existing airplanes. You end reading each chapter with a good understanding of the concepts AND an overview of the numbers you can expect when realising technical solutions.

Terrible

Confusing diagrams, odd formula derivations with insufficient explanation as to what's important and what is not. There are many minor typographical errors, though those do little more than annoy. I have struggled for hours trying to glean some meaning from this book and am bewildered at the authors' methods and content organization. This book is almost incomprehensible, and is only useful (sometimes) for its exhaustive breakdowns of concepts. This book throws every bit of everything at you with no regard to helping you understand aircraft performance or design.

Adult/High School—This book brings grandmother's crochet to the high-fashion world with more than 20 patterns for everything from leg and neck warmers to dresses. The authors deserve credit for the sheer creativity of the designs, even if they're not always practical (one choker necklace pattern incorporates feathers into the stitching, and others weave ribbons and buttons into patterns). Some of the ideas border on the ridiculous—the "hip hanger" looks like a sideways knitted apron worn over pants, and the patterns for fringed halters and bikinis are a little over-the-top even for those with the body confidence to pull off such a look. Projects are packaged and modeled by young "downtown" type women, giving this book a feel that is very different from the majority of craft books for young people these days—think club wear and hip-hop-inspired designs rather than the indie-hipster looks in books such as Amy Spencer's Crafter Culture Handbook (Marion Boyars, 2006). As such, it will appeal to different readers and crafters, and the wide range of projects guarantees that anyone will find at least a couple of patterns worth trying out. Erika Simmons and Monika Simmons are partners in Double Stitch, a retail line of clothing and accessories. Fun and refreshing twists for the classics

What I've enjoyed about this book is that it gave me a fresh, new appreciation for worsted weight yarn. For example, I love Red Heart Super Saver yarns because of their vibrant color palettes and availability, but they're not exactly pratical and tend make stiffer garments. This book has allowed me to use an array of yarns, including Red Heart, giving me wonderful results. The patterns are fairly easy to follow and this book takes care of that quick project "itich" when one wants somthing cute in a hurry. While some things in this book probably wouldn't work for me because i'm over 40, but having crocheted for over 30 years, I find this book refreshing. The only thing that I would suggest is that you read through the patterns. Although they're fairly straight forward and simple, like with any knitted or crocheted project, it's a good idea to understand exactly what you're dealing with. Nevertheless, play with the patterns and have fun!

Great way to spice up your wardrobe!

The double stitch twins have done it again, the book is great especially if you are looking for a way to add to your wardbrobe with new and fresh fashion. I've been crotcheting since I was a grade schooler, but stopped several years ago. I just recently picked it back up and I am now well past my refresher/beginner stage and looking for new and more challenging patterns to crotchet. I am not an arts and crafts person, I like making things that I can wear or give away for someone else to wear and appreciate, this book came right in handy. I have already spotted my next project and if I can finish it with success, I have Christmas gifts for a few people already scoped out! Thanks double stitch twins....I am looking forward to your next pattern book, hint..hint...

I wish I could give it more than 5 starts!!

This book is like looking at a fashion magazine. The authors and designers, sisters, have produced some of the most modern and "doable" patterns I've seen in a long time. This is my favorite crochet book purchase in the past 10 years.
I appreciate the designers giving us their ideas and patterns. Their ideas encouraged me to create an extra edging of a piece I am working on currently. I am just dying to start one, two, or three of the patterns in this book. I also appreciate the convenience and ease of some the patterns. They use readily available yarns, many of which are inexpensive namebrands that you can find at your local craft store and there are patterns for Intermediate Beginners and up.
Love it!!! (Can you tell ;-)

For more than just architects that build buildings

I used this book to create a process to review the architecture of software systems. All software architects should read this book to get a better understanding of how to "get" requirements from their clients. The process of using "snow cards" (analysis cards) is a great communication tool that I have used to both get requirements and to provide feedback to projects that we were reviewing.

One section I always refer software architects to is the "cost estimation" section. If you are creating a building, you have to come in very close to your estimated cost if you want to stay in business. Compare this to the estimation of how much a software project will cost because we do not have a good estimation process. I always liked the estimate that you can park 125 cars per acre when you are trying to estimate how big a parking garage should be. We need to develop similar guidelines/estimates for software projects.

We were fortunate enough to have spent time with William Pena because he was very interested in how we had applied the techniques in his book to the development of software architectures.

Absolute must for minimally competent architects to define their customers needs!

Again....newer version of an older book, just keeps getting better, and more and more relevant everyday! It's a lost art, architects who can develop architectural programs! An absolute must for the genius student architects, or the interns, and even those licensed to be "minimally competent in the practice of architecture". (No I'm not being mean, that is actually what it says when you pass your architectural state boards). Now, someone turn the next version into a helpful app!

Lots of great information, gets a little wordy and long at times

I purchased this book because it was recommended reading for one of the seven architectural exams I need to pass to become an architect. The book is very well written and is full of information that I didn't need on the test, but I will definitely use in my career. In the middle of the book it becomes a little long winded and wordy, but the information the book provides is invaluable. I recommend it highly!
