Stock Scenery Construction Handbook

Wow - this is one incredible book on scenery construction. Whether you are an amateur doing your first production or a seasoned professional, you need this book in your library. If you are the producer, director, technical coordinator, or totally responsible for the entire scenery, this book is a must have. I have written, produced, directed, acted in and built stage sets for numerous stage productions. Currently working on a movie and I wanted to create more detailed settings than what you use in stage plays. This book was recommended in another book I was studying on filmmaking so I took a gamble and ordered it. I wish I had this book in the 1960s when I started building stage sets for a magic show and for every production I have done since then. What this book doesn't cover, you don't need. Even if you're not into reading, just the illustrations alone are worth 50x the small cost of this book. My recommendation is simple - get it now before your next production!

Excellent!

Even an experienced set carp has something to gain from the insightful techniques herein. Unlike ordinary construction, sets and scenery need to hold up to constant building & rebuilding. They need to be strong, but light weight as well. Many sets are moved from show to show- sometimes for years. The Stock Scenery Construction Handbook should be a part of every set builder's library.

Useful information and illustrations for advanced set designers

Found this book quite useful because the information given is precise and accurate. Graphics here are fundamental for clearing up some concepts and I appreciated also its quite direct approach in terms of organization and development. I recomend it if you don't have a book or guide on classical structures and stage construction for the theatre.

Stefan Roesch has worked in the tourism industry for over fifteen years and is currently Deputy Managing Director for CenTouris, a market research and tourism consulting institute based at the University of Passau, Germany. He is also a freelance consultant in film tourism, an area he has been researching for ten years. As part of his doctoral thesis Stefan undertook fieldwork research on several case studies, including The Lord of the Rings in New Zealand, Star Wars in Tunisia and The Sound of Music in Austria. He regularly speaks at international conferences and advises the industry on how to utilise film for marketing strategies. In 2013, Stefan founded the film production company Punakaiki Productions.

Find out what's between their ears -- and other places -- before you hit the sheets.

I happened upon this book while perusing the shelves at my local library. I was lingering by the "133.5" section when its bright-red cover caught my eye. After reading the title, I knew that I would be taking it home. I thumbed through the pages to my own section and that of my partner. I didn't find anything too objectionable, so I checked it out.

Unlike a seemingly-similar-and-also-excellent tome, "Linda Goodman's Love Signs," this book does not discuss in length signs in combination with each other. It does, however, give in-depth interpretations of each individual sign with a cursory list of the different combinations for both straight and gay couplings. The format separates men from women so that the nuances of each gender may be better understood.

I really like the construction of this book. Each sign/gender has a one-page introduction followed by the subheading "Sign + Mind." This first section describes the psychological makeup of its natives, using the cosmology of astrology (polarity, rulership, element, quality, etc.) in association with and represented by mythological and Biblical archetypes. If examples exist, modern literary characters are cited as well.

The second section, "Body + Soul," illustrates how the psychology of an individual expresses itself in corporeal form. I do find this section to be less "on the money," because an individual's physical form is highly colored by the Ascendant sign at birth; thus, making morphological generalities based upon sun sign alone somewhat less accurate. If you know your own (or your partner's) rising sign, you can cross-reference the corresponding section for this other sign.

The third section, "Sex + Sexuality," addresses the reasons most of us are interested in this book in the first place. It synthesizes the previous two segments in order to tell us how we like it and why. The language is of an adult nature, but this is an adult topic meant for adults, so it is wholly appropriate. I don't have enough experience to know whether all the sexual proclivities are spot-on, but after reading the corresponding "sign + mind" divisions, I can see that there is quite a bit of congruence.

Throughout the book, there are informative asides for each sign/gender in the margins of the pages -- "principle," "planetary symbol," "sign quadrant," "sign glyph," "element + quality," "polarity," "sign number," "sign-age association," "psychology," "archetype + myth," "Bible + literature," "keywords for the astrological house," "keywords for the sign," "body rulership," "list of famous people," "straight turn-ons," and "gay turn-ons" -- which serve as a sort of "Cliffs' Notes" for this hefty tome. In fact, the reader can get a heck of a lot out of just reading the margins without ever delving any deeper into the chapters.

In summary, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in knowing themselves, and their partners or prospective partners, intimately. You will not be disappointed!

Very dissapointed being aquarius women i thought it would be fun reading about my sexual side.but apparently it felt like the authors really dint like aquarius.saying aquarius women all look like old hags!really !!ok it also said that all aquarius women were unhygenic and never like to clean.!and so on and so on.oh and were all stepping doormats.and we dont care about how we look at all.becuase apparently were the clowns of the zodiac! ugh! dint read the other signs and quite frankly dont feel like reading any thing more in this book.if you wanna read something to make you feel inadaquate and to also make you feel that your the "mutant"of the zodiac then go ahead and by this book.best regards.aquarius female with gemini moon rising.

If you love the mag this collected edition book is a no-brainer. If you're not familiar with the magazine, Hi Fructose showcases some of the best up and coming artists in the low-brow/pop surrealism movement. It's a fantastic coffee table book and a must-have for any serious art book collector.

Fantastic Book

This book is beautifully bound and made with excellent materials. Though the content is mainly reproduced from past issues of Hi Fructose, that doesn't hurt the value of this book. The actual illustrations and text were originally of high quality and value as an artist or fan of modern art and the surrounding scene, and being packaged better does not hurt. Quality paper and ink and larger pages make this book a superior way to absorb Hi Fructose into your system whether you have already read all the issues or not. I bought this for my girlfriend's birthday and she loves using it as a reference or for inspiration when brainstorming her next art project.

The Best Art Mag Around, Collected

Hi-Fructose has been the most consistently satisfying art mag out there for a while now, every issue loaded with page after page of amazing art. Juxtapoz is slicker, with better interviews, and covers many of the same artists, but feels anemic in comparison. Volume 3 of the collected edition contains some of the best issues in the magazine's stellar history, minus the ads and bound in an 8" x 11" 350 page hardcover package. I don't think there's ever been a periodical that's been good enough to bother referring to 'it's best issues', so that should speak to the level of quality on display, and why this is the only art magazine to rate a collected edition. Josh Keyes, Tiffany Bozic, James Jean, Rob Sato, Mark Ryden, et al... if those names mean anything to you, and likely even if they don't, you'll want this book.
